Silver in kayak, bronze in canoe

NEW DELHI: India have won a silver and a bronze medal in the ongoing 8th Asian Canoeing Championship at Changde City, China. Pradip Kumar Baroi and Karma Toppo won silver in the 1000 metres K-2 category while Siji Kumar and Vaga Ram claimed bronze in the C-2 category for the same distance, it was known today.

Naren champion

KOCHI: VR Naren Kumar with co-driver Ramkumar of MRF emerged champion in the four-wheeler class of the Popular Rally, a round of the Castrol National Rally Championship. In Group N too, MRF swept the first three places, with Karandip Singh (co-driver Jaidas Menon) coming first.

In two-wheeler class, Krishnamoorthy Prasad of Mysore, the 1997 Overall National champion, won the overall championship on his Pacer Yamaha RX 135.

SAI make final

NEW DELHI: Nemai Sardar scored the all-important goal for Sukhantanagar Vidyaniketan (SAI) against Rangadih SBH School (West Bengal) in the junior (U-17) semi-final of the inter-schoolfootball tournament for Subroto Mukherjee Cup today. In the sub-junior (U-14) quarter-final, Mount Carmel, Mizoram defeated Golden Valley Public School, Haryana 6-1.

Central Rly win

FARIDKOT: Central Railway, Mumbai beat Northern Railway 4-2 on the second day of the eighth Baba Farid Gold Cup Hockey Tournament. Siraj Din scored a hat-trick with Shamim Beg getting the other for Central Railway. Brij Naib Singh got both the goals for the losing side.

Eves tri-series

NEW DELHI: India, New Zealand and England eves will play a triangular one-day series at Sharjah from October 25, a Women's Cricket Association of India release said today. The Indian women will also clash with Australia and South Africa in another tri-nation tournament at Dubai in February next.

India will also tour the US for a tri-series involving England and New Zealand.
