PUNE, Sept 20: Former Indian cricket captain Dilip Vengsarkar has expressed his willingness to start a cricket academy in Pune on the lines of his Mumbai based Elf-Vengsarkar Cricket Academy.``Maharashtra has immense potential. I am quite keen to start an academy here, but on my terms and conditions,'' informed Vengsarkar who along with coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Makrand Waingankar are in the city along with their under-19 squad to play practice matches with various local teams.
The Elf-VCA team will be playing matches with Deccan Gymkhana (Srs), MCA XI, Poona Club and Shirke Club before participating in the U-19 Sportstar tournament from September 27.
When asked whether he would take up any BCCI coaching assignment if offered, Vengsarkar, standing firm in his ground said, ``Presently I am well occupied with my academy and columns. And if I take up a BCCI assignment, it would not be possible to write genuine columns."
Vengsarkar, while encouraging the idea of playing practice matches against inter-city teams, also invited the Maharashtra Cricket Association's u-19 team to reciprocate the gesture and play in Mumbai for exposure. "The MCA should chalk out a brief programme during its off-season, so that the boys who are on the verge of making it into first-class cricket will benefit most.''
Meanwhile, in the first match Elf-VCA defeated Deccan Gymkhana by 8-wickets.
