PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, SEPT 21: The government has released 25 lakh tonnes of sugar for October, November and December as quotas for indigenous free sale. Nine lakh tonnes are for October, while eight lakh tonnes each for November and December, an official statement said here today.

With 3.69 lakh tonnes of levy sugar quota released each for these months, the total quantity of sugar available for internal consumption would be 12.69 lakh tonnes for the month of October, 11.69 lakh tonnes for November and 11.69 lakh tonnes for December respectively, it said.

The free sale quotas are meant for internal consumption and with enough stocks of sugar available in hand, the government is in a position to release more sugar in case the situation so warrants, it added.
