New Indian Newspaper Society chief takes charge

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
BANGALORE, SEPT 21: Shobha Subrahmanyan, Managing Director of Anand Bazar Patrika (ABP) group of publications, was elected president of the Indian Newspaper Society for 1999-2000 at the 60th Annual General Meeting held here on Monday.

Subrahmanyan, who is also the chairperson of United News of India, succeeds Mammen Mathew of Malayala Manorama. A graduate of Calcutta University, she started her career in advertising with Clarion McCann and joined ABP in 1979 where she subsequently headed various divisions including marketing, circulation and production before being appointed managing director in August this year.

Vijay Kumar Chopra (Hind Samachar) is the Deputy President, Pratap G Pawar (Sakar) is the Vice President, Vishwa Bandhu Gupta (Daily Tej) is the honorary treasurer and P K Lahiri is the Secretary General of the Society, according to a INS press release here.
