BHOPAL, SEPT 21: The flood situation remained grim today in about 200 villages of three districts in Madhya Pradesh and several places in South Gujarat though water level in Narmada river started receding.Army personnel equipped with three helicopters and ten motor boats rescued about 7,000 persons in Hoshangabad and Sehore districts from the flood affected villages as Narmada was still flowing about 13 feet above the danger mark of 964 feet at Hoshangabad, state flood control officials said.
State chief secretary Kripa Shanker Sharma today visited the flood affected villages of Raisen district and inspected rescue and relief operations.
According to the weatherman, thundershowers are likely to occur in Rewa, Bilaspur, Jabalpur, Raipur and Bastar divisions and few places in the remaining divisions of the state.
Official sources in the Gujarat capital of Gandhinagar said Narmada was still flowing above the danger mark at many places and in Bharuch district. Over 2,300 people were evacuated fromlow-lying areas on the banks of Narmada since Sunday.
Meanwhile, MP finance minister Ajay Narayan Mushran today sought an immediate help of Rs 75 crore from the Central Government for rescue and relief operations.
Madhya Pradesh has also decided to further intensify flood relief and rescue operations with the cooperation of army, police, homeguards, Red Cross, voluntary and social organisations.
