MUMBAI, SEPT 21: Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar and 275 others were arrested by police at Domkhedi in Nandurbar district of Maharashtra today in connection with protests against the Sardar Sarovar Project, NBA sources said. The sources said the arrests took place after Patkar and other NBA activists had rejoined the satyagraha against the Narmada dam at Domkhedi where villagers were protesting in waist-deep water since yesterday. Patkar and others have been detained at Domkhedi police station, the sources said.
Maharashtra police had earlier detained Patkar on September 19 along with 125 others for agitating against the Narmada dam. Meanwhile, the Narmada has crossed the danger mark in many areas with the Army being called in Madhya Pradesh to help evict people in submerged villages. The Narmada has been flowing 3.82 meters above the danger mark at Mortakka bridge in Barwah today.
