Quake rocks Bhavnagar
Ahmedabad: An earthquake of mild intensity struck Bhavnagar city and its surroundings at 11:40 am on Tuesday. According to police, people panicked and ran out of their houses. However, there were no reports of any casualties. Eyewitnesses said that in the tremors, which were felt for about three seconds, doors and windows of many buildings were damaged.Pickle seized
Vadodara: Officials of the Weight and Measures department have seized pickle packets worth about Rs 3,000 from the Padra-based Madhav Foods Company on charges that they contained less than the printed weight. An official release said similar cases were lodged against 219 other traders of the city and Rs 4,000 recovered in fines from them.
Vehicle numbers
The Regional Transport Office will release a new series of registration numbers for two wheelers in the GJ 6-QQ series from October 5. Applications for registration numbers of one's choice will be accepted on October 4, along with the amount that can be paid for such a number. Numbers will be allotted to the highest bidder, a press release said.
KV, ONGC, wins
Kendriya Vidyalaya, ONGC, won the dance competition conducted as part of the social science meet organised by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Ahmedabad, in Vadodara. A press release said 41 regional KVs took part in the meet. The winners will go on to the national meet in Dehradun.
Poster contest
In an awareness-creation drive, Jagrut Grahak will organise a poster competition on consumer awareness. A press note said those interested in participating should submit the fee and forms by September 30. Posters on 20x30 inch glazed paper should also be sent to the Jagrut Grahak office before October 25.
Cheque given
A cheque of Rs 45,000, to be spent on 200 tree-guards at the new domestic complex of the Darjipura Air Force station, was recently presented to Air Commodore P Rajkumar by State Bank of India deputy general manager Joseph Pinto.
ABVP claim
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has claimed that students were not being accepted into M S University hostels despite vacancies. They submitted a memorandum to this effect to Pro-Vice-Chancellor Deepak Kumar De on Tuesday and urged him to look into the matter.
Mankad to visit
Additional Chief Secretary, Education, Sudhir Mankad will attend a function on September 25 to mark the end of a workshop organised by the District Literacy Committee in association with the Continuing Education Centre of M S University. A press release issued here said Joint Commissioner, Sardar Sarovar Rehabilitation Agency, A K Sharma will be the chief guest at the function, to be held at the Faculty of Home Sciences at 3 pm.
BDMA talk
The Bharuch District Management Association will organise a talk on `Samurai Warfare: Implementing Total quality' on Saturday. According to a press note, the talk will be delivered by T R Natarajan and Dr Edwin Pio, founder-directors of the Mumbai-based WIN Research and Consultancy Services at the GNFC corporate building auditorium.
