VMC delegation to visit New Delhi

VADODARA, Sept 21: A high-level delegation of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) would call on the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) authorities in New Delhi on September 30 to seek an additional 20,000 cubic meter gas for its piped gas consumers.

Led by Mayor Umakant Joshi and Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, the delegation will also ask the Gas Authority of India Limited to continue the present supply of 80,000 cubic meters gas.

Medical officers The Vadodara Municipal Corporation appointed six medical officers, including one lady medical officer. Around 54 candidates were interviewed for nine posts, of which four were of general category and one reserved for a woman. Civic sources said other reserved seats could not be filled as the candidates were not suitable. Light pole The civic body has decided to install a six-feet high pole which emits metallic colours near the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh. Earlier, it had decided to install 20-feet-high highmast lights.

Municipal Commissioner said the highmast lights would not suit in the area. The purpose of installing the six-feet high pole is to give the area an aesthetic look, he stated. The pole is expected to cost Rs 1 lakh.

Inquiry installed A top official of the State Government on Tuesday conducted an inquiry in connection with alleged irregularities in the case of allotting plots in Rangavdhutpura in the western part of the city.

The official is inquring particularly into charges of alleged irregularities against then Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) N Talpada. Talpada has retired for the last about two years.

Charges were also framed against several VMC employees as well.

Anganwadis The VMC will soon set up 123 anganwadis in different parts to the city. This would be in addition to the existing 177.

The anganwadis would cater to children between the age group of six months to six years in various socially and economically backward parts of the city.

A Vadodara Municipal Corporation spokesman said that women intending to join as anganwadi workers can apply to the ICDS Project Officer, Vadodara Municipal Corporation, Pulbari Naka, Salatwada before September 24. Minimum qualification is SSC.

Selected candidates will get Rs 500 monthly. Those staying near the anganwadi centres would be given first preference.
