VMC makes grand plans to enter the next millennium in style

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Sept 21: Soon it would be time to enter the new millennium. And if the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is to be believed, the city won't lag behind in celebrating the entry into the 21st Century.

Following State Government's instructions, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation has planned several programmes, including laser shows, musical concerts and illuminating historical buildings of the city, on December 31.

Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria told reporters on Tuesday that the programmes would be part of the Gujarat Darbar programmes to be organised in four places, including Ahmedabad, in the State.

He said within a week's time, an elaborate programme would be sent to the State Government, who reportedly would foot the expenses and approach sponsors if necessary.

Aloria said plans were afoot to organise the events over a period of two to three days. According to him, the laser show would depict the progress in Vadodara and Gujarat. ``We wish that a ballet can be also organised,'' he said.

Leading artistes from Gujarat and all over India would be invited to present recitals. A show of fire crackers will also be organised. Fire crackers will also be burst on Dhanteras during the Diwali festival. On January 1, 2000, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation intends to conduct shenai recitals. Corporation, SRP and other bands would play various tunes. The places of performance would be decided later on.

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation had recently received a letter from the State Government asking it to submit a detailed list of programmes which it would organise.
