SURAT, Sept 21: Five employees of Baroda Rayon Corporation Limited (BRC) ended their indefinite fast on Tuesday after the agitating employees reached an agreement with the management for salaries of April and May to be paid before Diwali. The district administration officials were also present on the occasion.The employees, who had announced on Monday that they will not accept wages for half month relented and on Tuesday collected salary for the first fortnight of April last year. The BRC has apparently tided over the crisis looming large over the horizon.
Employees B U Upadhyay, S D Sudan, L S Saiyyed, V P Shah and H P Sharma, who were on an indefinite fast since September 14, were provided food and water by deputy labour commissioner D K Patel and Baba Saheb Gaikwad, son of BRC chairman Sangram Singh Gaikwad, marking a symbolic end to their fast and the latest strike of BRC employees. Employees were seen rejoicing after the agreement was reached, as the salary for April and May will enable them to make necessary purchases for Diwali.
