Scholarships for Nitin, Manisha

MUMBAI, SEPT 21: Pune's Nitin Kirtane and National women's champion Manisha Malhotra of Mumbai won the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association's (MSLTA) Ravibhau Ranade Scholarship. They will receive cash awards worth Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively for their outstanding performances in National events.

Other winners of the Ranade scholarship: Junior National champion: Nagpur's Vijendra Laad (Rs 20,000). Mini Junior National champion: Mumbai's Megha Vakharia (Rs 20,000).

Sub-junior Nationals: Joint winners, Mumbai's Liza Pereira (Rs 15,000) and Sonal Phadke (Rs 25,000). Junior Nationals runner-up: Pune's Radhika Tulpule (Rs 10,000). Manisha also won another Rs 7,000 and Nalini Hattikudur scholarship along with her Mumbai teammate Jahnavi Parekh (Rs 5000).

Isha Lakhani of Mumbai got the Madhav Annigeri Memorial Scholarship and Rs 750 for being the most outstanding mini-junior player from the state.

The beneficiaries of Dr Apte Memorial and MSLTA scholarships totallingRs 2.39 lakh were also named among different age groups. Under-18 boys state champion Kedar Tembe (Rs. 14,000), his statemates Dipesh Rao (Rs. 10,000) and Karan Doctor (Rs. 6500) and under-16 players Pratim Parekh (Rs. 14,000), Gaurav Kumar (Rs. 10,000) and Abhishek Tamhane (Rs 6500) were some of the beneficiaries.

Others who won scholarships in boys' under-14 group are Rohan Gajjar (Rs. 14,000), Vikrant Sane (Rs. 10,000) and Shashank Kulkarni (Rs. 6500), under-12 group Keshavan Narshimhan (Rs. 14,000), C Akshay (Rs. 10,000) and Gautam Samarth (Rs. 6500), under-10 group Arnav Jain (Rs. 10,000), Gaurav Agarwal (Rs. 6000) and Kaushal Mahale (Rs. 3500).

In the girls under-18 section Radhika Tulpule (Rs.10,000), Radhika Mandke (Rs. 7000) and Sonal Phadke (Rs. 4500), in under-16 category Sonal Phadke (Rs. 10,000), Liza Pereira (Rs. 7000) and Megha Vakharia (Rs. 4500) and under-14 group Megha Vakharia (Rs. 10,000), Isha Lakhani (Rs. 7000) and Lata Asudani (Rs. 4500) won thescholarships.

Under-12 girls Kartiki Bhat (Rs. 10,000), Lizenka Pereira (Rs. 7000) and Ronak Shah (Rs. 4500) and under-10 players Moneeza Siddique (Rs. 6000), Roshni Luthra (Rs. 4000) and Nikita Atul (Rs. 1500) were some of the other beneficiaries.
