Attack on Arvind Ghatpande flayed
The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) strongly condemned the attack on Arvind Ghatpande by office bearers and workers of the Vijay Maruti Mandal.A statement issued by Satyaranjan Sathe, Taherbhai Poonawalla and others of the PUCL called upon Puneites to speak out against the brutal and premeditated attack on a senior citizen. "Doubtless these hooligans will attempt to portray their actions as a defence of their cultural rights but this is unlikely to fool Lord Ganesha or the citizens of Pune," the statement added.
Lamenting the lackadaisical attitude of the police, the statement added that it was the indifference of the authorities that encouraged the goons to even greater excesses in lawless behaviour. They demanded the police crack down hard on the culprits.
