CHANDIGARH, Sept 22: Amidst an ebullient mood and spirited disposition, Manjusha Shukla was crowned Miss Fresher 1999 at the Government College for Girls, Sector 11, today. Ruby Charak and Niharika Mukhija were the first and second runners-up, respectively.The evening took off with as many as 28 girls sashaying in the first sequence of the three-round contest, which was interposed with songs, dances and a qawali.
The four `Spice Girls' charmed the audience with two English songs, played to the metallic twang of the guitar, while vibrant dance numbers Ku Ku Ku..., Dil Kad Le Gayee...., Balori Akhaan Dekh had the hall reverbrating to the joyous melodies with the audience too pitching in.
A qawali-based parody, coordinated by Richa Verma, which comprised short film songs, was the highlight of the evening.
The function, which was presided over by college principal, Vijay Lakshmi, was capped by a tantalising dance, Nimbuda by Harpreet Kaur.
