ROOPNAGAR, Sept 22: Accusing the authorities of deleting the names of Scheduled Caste voters from the electoral rolls, the Congress leaders are seeking repolling in 40 villages of the Chamkaur Sahib Assembly segment.Listing the names of 40 villages in Chamkaur segment of the Ropar (reserve) Lok Sabha constituency, the District Congress Committee general secretary Jagjit Singh Jagga alleged that the SCs -- their traditional vote-bank -- were denied the right to exercise their franchise. Jagga charged that the ruling Akali Dal had their names deleted from the electoral rolls, about 10 per cent voters in these villages could not exercise their franchise, and demanded immediate repolling.
Earlier, a formal complaint was sent to the Chief Electoral Officer by the Congress candidate Shamsher Singh Dullo, he said. Sources in the administration ruled out repolling, saying that the voters were given one month's time to file their objections after the fresh electoral rolls were prepared. ``Authorities do not see any reason for repolling now,'' a senior administrative officer associated with the election process said.
