Shalmali, Rujuta eye double

MUMBAI, SEPT 22: Shalmali Inamdar and Rujuta Rege were in line for a double each as the MIG District ranking table tennis tournament wound its way to the closing rounds. While Shalmali entered the finals of the girls and women's events, Rujuta made it to the summit of the girls and sub-junior girls categories.

St Andrew's score

St Andrew's College, Bandra, defeated NR Swamy 25-15 26-24 to advance to the fourth round in the Mumbai University Inter-college volleyball tournament, held at Somaiya College today.

RESULTS

Men (3rd round): Andrew's bt NR Swamy 25-12 26-24, Burhani bt Saboo Siddik 25-9 25-16, Thakur bt Tolani 25-9 25-13, Mithibai bt Sydenham25-13 25-17, Sathaye bt PD Lions 25-11 25-11, Sardar Patel bt Ruia 25-12 25-14, Bhavan's w/o Vaze.

Tanksali team wins

Tanksali's, comprising of SS Tanksali (non-playing captain), DG Mondkar, Subhash Dhakras, R Sridharan, Ajay Khare, Vinay Desai and Raju Tolani won the prestigious A division finals of the Bombay contract bridge association, beating fancied Rajas (Jaggy Shivdasani, Rajesh Dalal, Anil Padhye, Anand Mehta and Anal Shah) by a margin of 108 IMPs. The final was an anti-climax to a keenly fought monsoon league spread over three months, as Rajas succumbed to some unforced errors at Matunga Gymkhana.
