Govt announces Rs 5 lakh for martyr's family

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA  
MUMBAI, SEPT 26: Maharashtra government on Sunday announced a financial aid of Rs five lakh for the family of Lance Naik Namdeo Pawar, who died during a military action `Operation Meghdoot' at Siachen on September 21.

The announcement was made by State Industries Minister Leeladhar Dake, who attended Pawar's funeral at his native place in Dhamne in Raigad district, an official release said here. Lance Naik Pawar was cremated with full military honours. The mortal remains were first brought to Mumbai airport and then flown to Dhamne village for the last rites. People from surrounding villages turned up in large numbers to salute the brave soldier.
