MUMBAI, SEPT 26: Degree college teachers across the state have decided to go on an indefinite strike from December 8 following the government's failure to revise the pay scales of teachers in accordance with the Centre's order. This was decided at a day-long meeting of the executive committee of the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation (MFUCTO). An office-bearer of MFUCTO, C R Sadasivan, said the MFUCTO had no alternative but to organise a strike as the government had not revised their pay scales. A resolution announcing the strike was passed at the meeting today.
Sadasivan said it has also been decided to organise a one-day dharna all over the state on October 20. While in Mumbai the dharna will be held at Azad Maidan, at other centres in the state it will be held at the offices of the local district collectors.
It was also decided at the meeting that Chief Minister Narayan Rane and Minister for Higher and Technical Education Datta Rane would be intimated about theindefinite strike through letters. The teachers were to go on strike earlier this year but had to call off their proposed agitation because of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Instead, the teachers held demonstrations and meetings with academicians, politicians, etc.
