CALCUTTA, SEPT 26: Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Calcutta Customs have seized counterfeit currency worth Rs 30 lakh from two persons at the N S C Bose international airport on Saturday, the airport's commissioner of customs S Dutta-Majumdar said today.He said that based on spot-intelligence, AIU officials intercepted M D Arif and Bilkis who arrived here last evening by a Thai Airways flight. The fake currency, in denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 100, were recovered from hidden chambers inside their suitcases.
Interrogation revealed that the amount was handed over to Arif in Bangkok by a Pakistani National. Scrutiny of Arif's passport revealed that he was a frequent visitor to Pakistan. His wallet also contained Pakistani currency, Dutta-Majumdar said.
