Architects meet to build ideas, images

SURAT, Sept 26: The Architecture Students Activity Council (ASAC) and the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Surat, will jointly organise Samaroh'99, a three-day event event commemorating architectural values and thoughts, beginning on Monday.

The event, which will be held at Faculty of Architecture, Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology (SCET), is a forum for professionals, students and the public interact to learn and understand each other better. In a statement issued here on Sunday, ASAC chairman Ashish Patel said one of the main attractions of Samaroh'99 would be slide shows and lecture series by eminent architects Prasanna Desai, Anand Shirgapkar and Shirish Beri, besides an exhibition by Beri.

Samaroh'99 will be inaugurated by Surat Municipal Commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra. Director of Planning R D Desai will inaugurate the works of renowned architech Shirish Beri, titled ``A search for Wholeness.'' The renowned Pune-based architect Prasanna Desai will present a slide show and a lecture on ``Housing- A Quality of Environment'' at 3 pm.

Noted architect Anand Shirgaokar, based in Vadodara, will conduct a slide show and lecture on ``Houses and Housing'' on September 28.

The SCET is a self-financed institute promoted by the `Sarvajanik Education Society.' The department of architecture is one of the faculties of the institute which, in coordination with AAERT (Art and Architecture Education Research Trust) and SSB (Sarvodaya Sahakari Cooperative Bank Ltd), offers education in the field of architecture.
