PUNE, Sept 26: Ganesh Pandey, a senior scientist at the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, has been awarded the prestigious Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar prize in the area of chemical sciences. The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a citation. The award has been given for his outstanding contributions in the fields of organic synthesis and electron transfer photochemistry.The scientific contributions of Dr Pandey pertain to a comprehensive and fundamental effort devoted to the elucidation of photoinduced electron transfer (PET) reactions from the sythetic and mechanistic points of view.
Dr Pandey is also the recipient of the CSIR young scientist award in chemical sciences, the Birla Science prize, the Prof N S Narasimhan award and the Dr Zaheer Memorial award. He is also fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of sciences, the National Academy of Sciences and the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences.
Presently, Dr Pandey is in Japan for few months as a visiting scientist at the Nagoya Institute of Technology and working on ``Intelligent sensors by highly punctualised materials.''
