NCL exhibition on

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
PUNE, Sept 26: As part of the Foundation Day celebrations of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) New Delhi, and the Golden Jubilee Year of the National Chemical laboratory (NCL), a two-day exhibition on `NCL's contribution in improving the quality of environment' has been organised at the NCL between 10 am to 5 pm on Monday and Tuesday.

The exhibition includes poster displays, demonstrations, models, film shows and multimedia presentation. It will be open to the school and college students on Monday and Tuesday.

A new golden jubilee hostel for research scholars was inaugurated by Dr A V Rama Rao, an NCL Alumnus and former director of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, as part of the celebrations of the CSIR foundation day.

NCL director Dr Paul Ratnaswamy in his address talked about the spectacular performance of NCL in terms of scientific papers publication in international journals, Indian and foreign patents granted to NCL and the external earnings from industry. He stressed on the new initiatives taken by NCL in the area of information technology and social projects like drinking water purification by membranes.

Speaking on `Chemistry and technology - Dynamics of change' he gave a fascinating account of changes taking place in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr Rama Rao made an announcement to contribute Rs 5 lakh to the NCL Research Foundation for establishing scholarships and other activities.

CSIR has decided to attach the Unit for Research and Development of Information Products (URDIP) to NCL, Pune with the objective of harnessing the synergy in the IT area.
