GANDHINAGAR, SEPT 26: The Gujarat Government is likely to announce major policy decisions relating to water and edible oil, two burning issues in the State, during the three-day session of the Legislative Assembly beginning here Monday.On the first day, the House will adjourn immediately after paying homage to soldiers who died during the recent Kargil conflict with Pakistani intruders, official sources told PTI.
The Gujarat Cabinet, under Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, will hold an informal meet here Monday evening to discuss the issues and policies likely to be raised, debated and announced on the floor of the House, sources added.
Besides official bills to be put up before consideration of the House, the State Government is likely to be grilled on a number of counts by the Opposition Congress and Independents, like water scarcity, rising edible oil prices and the law and order problem.
The recent incident of police firing in Surat during the Ganesh immersion procession resulting in the death ofseven persons and also the murder of former mayor of Morbi in Rajkot district are also likely to be debated during the Assembly session.
The Gujarat Govt may announce major policy decisions to control the water problem and check the prices of edible oil in the State. It may also announce relief measures for scarcity-hit areas and financial assistance to nagarpalikas and nagarpanchayats to help them implement various people-oriented schemes, sources added.
