Six errant C News staffers arrested

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, SEPT 27: Six persons with the C News Cine Cable network, including the programming-in-charge Sushil Deshpande, were arrested by the Santacruz police today for hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community.

The arrestes were made after members of the Sikh community protested against the cannel's derogatory references to the community in a programme aired on September 20. During vehement protests on Sunday, police also arrested 41 Sikhs for ransacking the network's office at Santacruz. The demonstrators wanted to know why the Santacruz police had not taken action against the channel for offending the community.

``We arrested five employees on Sunday night while Sushil Deshpande was arrested today,'' according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-VII), Rajendra Singh. The others are: Sunil Tambe, Sudhir Kokate, Sudesh Chhaterjee, Gaurav Mishra and Udayshankar Mishra. Subsequently, they all were released on bail. Further investigations are underway.
