AHMEDABAD, Sept 27: Veteran Congress leader Prabodh Raval who had gone to Uttar Pradesh as Lok Sabha election observer for the Congress died of brain haemorrhage in Lucknow on Sunday night. He was 70 and is survived by his wife, son and three daughters.Raval was attending a party meeting at the PCC head office in the evening amid hectic campaigning for Dr Karan Singh when he felt uneasy around 6.30 pm. He then went to the toilet, but when he did not come out even after half an hour, colleagues forced the door open and found that Raval had collapsed on the floor. He had suffered a severe heart attack followed by brain haemorrhage and paralysis. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he succumbed around 11 pm.
On learning about Raval's demise, AICC treasurer Ahmed Patel and secretary Maj Ved Prakash rushed to Lucknow from Delhi and brought his body to Ahmedabad by a special flight on Monday morning. After paying floral tributes at the airport, his body was taken to his Gandhinagar residence at Sector 1 where Assembly Speaker Dhirubhai Shah, Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, his Cabinet colleagues and a host of senior Congress leaders paid homage to him.
Raval's body was brought to the GPCC office in the afternoon where it was kept till 1.45 pm for party workers and leaders to pay their respects. PCC general secretary Irshad Mirza presented glimpses of Raval's biography and spoke about his attachment to the party in a moving manner. His body was then taken in a flower bedecked open truck to the crematorium.
