Cattle pound stormed
A security guard at an SMC-run cattle pound located beside Sarthana Water Works, Nana Varachha, fired two rounds from his licenced rifle when a mob of bharwads forced their way into the cattle pound during the night hours, beat up another guard, and escaped with cattle that had been impounded. Dineshsingh Devakar Thakur lodged a complaint in the Kapodara police station stating that around midnight, a group of about 20 to 25 bharwads stormed the pound and beat up Brijesh Kumar, a security guard. They then broke the pound lock, took the cattle, and fled. Thakur fired two rounds from his rifle while the mob was beating up Brijesh Kumar, the police added. A case has been registered but no arrests have been made as yet.Body recovered
The Umra police recovered the dead body of an unidentified man aged about 35 from the Tapi river behind Dimple Row Houses. Providing details, the Umra police stated that the person was wearing coffee-coloured trousers and a white shirt. The body has been sent to the New Civil Hospital for a post mortem. A 50-year old beggar, who was shifted by the Mahidharpura police to the New Civil Hospital in a sick condition, also died while being treated, a case registered under CrPC 174 said. The beggar was picked up late on Sunday night from Patelwadi slum of Lal Darwaja.
Suicide
Vajuben Velji (35), a resident of Umarvavdur village of Vyara taluka of the district committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree on Sunday, a police case said. According to a complaint lodged by Sunanda Chhagan, a relative, the deceased had a long bout of stomach illness and committed suicide after getting frustrated with it. The Vyara police have registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC and are investigating further.
Hit-and-run
The Olpad police have registered a case against an unidentified tempo driver, who, while driving recklessly, killed a motorcyclist near Amboli village of Olpad taluka. Leaving behind the tempo (GJ 6 T 4051), the driver fled the spot. A case has been registered under sections of the IPC and MVA.
