AISAD -- Proposals against Sikh tenets

CHANDIGARH, Sept 27: The Advisory Council of the All India Shiromani Akali Dal has stated that some of the proposed amendments of the Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925, go contrary to the basic rehat maryada. It has stated that since the amendments touch the fundamentals of Sikh tenets and have a far-reaching effects, all Sikh religious institutions should be taken into confidence before any steps are taken on these proposals.The Chairman of the Advisory Council, G.S. Grewal said the amendments have created doubt in the Sikh minds. In view of the Nehru-Tara Singh Pact of 1959 and Article 25 of the Constitution, it is mandatory that nothing should be imposed upon the minorities against their will. The advisory council was chaired by Grewal and attended by Balwant Singh Jandu, Kundan Singh Nagra, Surjit Singh Sood, and Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba.
