SPS-44 lads lift soccer title

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Sept 27: Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, dethroned title holders SD Public School-32, 5-2 via tie break to lift trophy in the Chandigarh State Junior football championship which concluded at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here today. Both the teams played a goalless draw in the regulation period. The winners and runners-up got Rs 1000 and Rs 500, respectively. In the tie-break Narinder, Dinesh, Rajinder, Kalarjit and Manjider scored for SPS-44 while Jatinder and Pushpinder coverted for SD-32.

Earlier, had SD school players not missed several scoring opportunities that came their way the outcome of the contest would have been different.

SD lads dominated the proceeding and had ball possession but it was not simply their day. After a brief skirmish in the mid-field, SD's Kuljeet missed to score in the 15th minute. Kuljeet was culprit again in the later part of the first half.

In the second session, SD's Tarjinder, Sartaj, Sandeep and Kuljeet, who earlier missed two scoring chances failed to net the match-winner for the team.

The competition also had its share of rough play. Rajinder of Sanjay Public School was booked for unsportsman like conduct on the field and Tarjinder of SD-32 was also shown yellow card in the second session.

Bir Singh (SPS-44) and Kuljeet (SD-32) were awarded the best players award of the meet.
