Shewag, Gambheer guide Bishnoi home

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
S.A.S. NAGAR, Sept 27: It will be Bishnoi Club versus PCA Colts XI in the final of the sixth J P Atray Memorial cricket tournament. Guided by Delhi-based youngsters, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Shewag, Bishnoi Club brushed aside PUNCOM's meek challenge, beating them by eight wickets in the semifinal here at the PCA Stadium today.

Set to score 194 in 50 overs, Bishnoi Club raced to the target in only 33.4 overs. The man-of-the-match Gambhir struck six boundaries and a six in his unbeaten 83 while Shewag hit seven boundaries and a six in his unbeaten knock of 76.

In fact, PUNCOM must be ruing their final score on a wicket where the ball was coming on to the bat easily. They started well as Prabhjot Singh and Gautam Sharma punished the much-vaunted Bishnoi new-ball attack. Gautam's tragic run out and Prabhjot's reckless stroke helped Bishnoi Club to claw their way back in the game.

Oniel Wilson dealt a double blow, getting rid of skipper Krishan Mohan and Bhupinder Singh (Sr) to further put pressure on PUNCOM. Ajay Mehra, batting in the middle order today, then struck a 63-run sixth-wicket stand with Davinder Mattoo but the going was slow. Mehra compiled a half century and with Ubaid Kamal's few blows in the final overs helped PUNCOM to 193.

Bishnoi lost a couple of early wickets as Oniel Wilson fell to Arun Bedi while Mithun Manhas's stump was sent carthwheeling by Bhupinder but once PUNCOM 'keeper Prabhjot let a chance off Shewag go abegging, there was no looking back for Bishnoi Club.
Scores: PUNCOM: 193 in 48.3 overs (Ajay Mehra 51, Prabhjot Singh 32, Gautam Sharma 23, Devinder Mattoo 26, Ubaid Kamal 21; Ajay Sharma 2-13, Oniel Wilson 2-32, Amit Bhandari 2-32) lost to Bishnoi XI: 196 for 2 in 33.4 overs (Gautam Gambhir 83 n.o., Virender Shewag 76 n.o).

Panchkula win
Chandigarh:
Panchkula beat Ambala by seven wickets to enter quarterfinal of the Haryana Inter-District (under-19) Rajinder Goel Trophy cricket at Karnal yesterday.

Aman Verma (3 for 15) and Gaurav Sood (3 for 15) were the bowling heroes while Rajiv Dhankar (33 n.o.) saw Panchkula home with his defiant batting.
Scores: Ambala: 107 (Sachin 21; Aman Verma 3-15, Gaurav Sood 3-19, Umesh Kaira 2-13) lost to Panchkula: 108 for 3 in 21.4 overs (Rajiv Dhankar 33 no., Narender Walia 22; Nitin 2-18).
