Cong Seva Dal to meet on Oct 2
Surat City Congress Seva Dal will meet at the party office, on October 2, to pay tributes to former home minister and Congress veteran Prabhodh Raval, and also the seven people and a Muslim youth who were killed in police firing in Limbayat and Bhagatalav area respectively, Congress Seva Dal chairman Chandrakishor Rathi said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

Trees planted
About 900 farmers of Mandvi taluka planted 47,910 sapplings on infertile land as a part of the 50th Van Mahostshav celebrations to create awareness about environment.

Ban orders
Additional District Magistrate R J Makadia has banned assembly of more than four people in view of counting of votes on October 6 and the forthcoming Navratri festival. The ban will remain in effect from September 30 to October 14.

Peace appeal
A joint statement issued by Giant Group of Surat (Chowpatty), Akasmat Niwaran Sahay, Apamrityu Nivaran Sangh and other organisations appealed to the people to refrain from sensationalising the recent deaths of seven people in Limbayat. According to the organisations, the demand for transfer and suspension of the police chief would have a demoralising effect on police force.

Unique festival
A first of its kind national festival organised by the Surat-based Deaf and Dumb Welfare Society will be inaugurated by District collector Sangeeta on October 3. The festival to be held at Nagardas Hall, near water tank in Adajan area, will remain open between 9 am and 6 pm. Surat mayor Bhikhabhai Boghra will remain present as guest of honour along with Mahant Rakeshbhai Maharaj.

Air Force Day
Vadodara:
Indian Air Force personnel and their family members would hold a special week-long programme to mark the Air Force Day. According to an official release, several programmes commemorating the Air Force Day would be flagged off after the opening of a two-day Air Force Mela at the IAF station, Makarpura, by Air Commodore P P Rajkumar. The Mela, which is open for general public too, would also include raffle draws, static displays of different types of aircraft and other weaponry.

TQM meet
Senior executives from several leading industries participated in the pre-convention seminar on Total Quality Management, organised by the city chapter of the Quality Circle Forum of India here on Tuesday. A forum press note said that scholarly case studies were presented by several industrial houses like IOCL, Gujarat Refinery, ABB, Sumul Dairy, FAG, Apollo Tyres and Lakhanpal National Limited during the seminar.

Awareness camp
Officials of the Weight and Measures department held an educative programme at C N Baxi School, Jabugam village, Jetpurpavi taluka of the district recently. According to an official release, students were made aware of various methods adopted by unscrupulous businessmen to cheat customers.
