SURAT, Sept 29: Students from South Gujarat, mostly tribals, will meet the governor to represent the problems they face in various colleges and hostels. The All India Democratic Students Organisation, which held a tribal students' convention at Valsad, resolved to launch a signature campaign highlighting their problems.A memorandum will be submitted to the governor and a delegation of students will also apprise him of their problems. In a statement, Laxman Bagul, president, South Gujarat Students Co-ordination committee, said about 300 students from various colleges of Valsad, Chikhli, Dharampur, Bilimora, Ahwa and Navsari attended the convention.
The convention, held to mark the 92nd birth anniversary of Shahid Bhagat Singh, discussed hostel admission and drinking water problems in hostels and colleges, non-availability of mess facilities in hostels, and lack of basic facilities like ceiling fans and lights in hostels where these tribal students are studying.
According to Bagul, one of the biggest problems students face is lack of transport facilities. There are no bus services available which can ensure that students reach college on time.
Girl students attending the convention complained that they are ``forced'' to cook for other students as college trustees are not hiring adequate staff for running hostel kitchens. Students also complained that they were not getting their scholarships regularly.
