High alert along LoC

JAMMU: A state of high alert has been sounded along the LoC, particularly in Poonch sector, and security forces have been kept ready to foil any attempt of the JKLF to cross over into Indian territory from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). JKLF chief Amanullah Khan had given a call for crossing the LoC on October 4.

Sony's Morita dead

TOKYO: Akio Morita, co-founder of Sony Corp and the man who gave the world the walkman, died today of pneumonia in a Tokyo hospital, the company said. He was 78. Morita was responsible for some of Sony's most successful innovations and a high-profile envoy for Japan Inc at the peak of its global presence in the 1980s.

Tansen fest begins

NEW DELHI: The prestigious Tansen Festival began this morning here with an enchanting shehnai concert by Ustad Bismillah Khan. The ageing ustad kept the overflowing audience spellbound for over two hours, after which sitarists Debu Chaudhuri and his son Prateek Chaudhuri presented anotherscintillating performance.
