Cleaner `kills' truck driver

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Oct 3: A 24-year-old man was murdered in Daria village here last evening. The murderer is believed to have decamped with about Rs 25,000 belonging to the deceased.

The deceased, Dalip Sarkar, was a native of West Bengal and worked here as a truck driver. Police suspect that Rakesh, alias Mukesh (22), working as cleaner with the victim, killed him for money. The suspect is a resident of a village near Aligarh and police parties have been despatched in his hunt.

Police sources said that Dalip's body was found lying in a pool of blood in the truck. Apparently he had been hit in the head with a sharp-edged tool used to fix truck wheels. The blood-stained tool lay near the body. He was probably murdered between the night of September 30 and October 1 and the body lay unnoticed till last evening. His body has been sent to the Sector 16 General Hospital for post mortem.

Quoting truck-owner Darshan Singh, resident of Ghaziabad, police sources said that the victim had worked for Singh for about two years. Sarkar called Singh a few days ago to say that he had taken on Rakesh as a new cleaner, since the previous cleaner had gone to his village.

Sarkar also informed him that the truck needed to be repaired and asked him to come to the city. Singh reached the city on September 30 and frantically looked for the driver. Eventually, he found the truck parked in the Daria transport area yesterday evening but it was locked and the driver was nowhere in sight.

After waiting for a couple of hours, they peeped through the window and saw Sarkar laying inside in a pool of blood, after which they called the police.

Sarkar reportedly kept his savings with him despite warnings from his friends.

Mukesh was found missing from the city which led to police to suspect him straightaway. The police got his address from another truck-owner for whom he had worked previously. Police sources added that the accused had not registered himself with any police station here.
