Chandigarh, Oct 4: The city police have arrested Sector 37 resident P. B. Gupta who, along with his wife, allegedly procured forged school certificates to get students admitted in the next class without qualifying in the previous one.Police sources said that Gupta ran a hostel in Sector 15. A Class XI girl, hailing from Hoshiarpur, was staying in his hostel. After she failed in her examination, Gupta and his wife persuaded the girl not to inform it to her parents and that they would arrange her admission in Class XII.
Accordingly, they got her admitted in a school in Sector 44 here by procuring a forged Class XI's pass certificate from Sector 20 Government Model Senior Secondary School. They asked her to arrange Rs 30,000 for the purpose.
A few days ago someone informed her parents and they reached here. Their suspicion was confirmed when they found that she had the certificate from a Sector 20 school whereas she had studied in Sector 10 Government Model School. They informed the police who registered a case of forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy against the couple under section 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of Indian Penal Code. The police have arrested Gupta while his wife is absconding.
Sector 11 Station House Officer Vijay Kumar, when contacted, said the police were investigating how many more students had been cheated in this manner. Sources revealed that police have already got clues about more such cases.
