Govt to order inquiry into liquor smuggling during prohibition

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MORNI, OCT 4: The Haryana Government will set up a commission to inquire into the cases relating to smuggling of liquor during prohibition in the State. This was disclosed today by Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, while talking to the mediapersons here today. The Chief Minister was here on the occasion of the state-level function organised on the occasion of the Wildlife Preservation Week celebrations, which is observed during the first week of October every year.

Chautala said another high powered committee has also been constituted under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Sampat Singh, which would concentrate on matters relating to the taxation policy. He said the government would also consider the abolition of the Periphery Act. There will be no general transfers in the state this year, Chautala said, but added that only officials against whom complaints had been received would be transferred.

The Chief Minister stressed on the development of Morni as a tourist resort and said the government would make all out efforts to beautify the area and provide all requisite amenities. Earlier, Chautala, while presiding over the function, expressed serious concern over the extinction of a number of wildlife species, which he said would eventually result in serious ecological imbalance. Also, he said animals should be given an environment which is suitable for their habitat and urged the people to check pollution.

Reacting to the demands of the people of the area, he said the government would provide all-round help in the areas of education, health, roads, drinking water and other problems which have been pending for quite some time now. One of these was providing an ambulance van which, he promised, would reach the people soon. He called upon people, especially the children, to protect nature and preserve wildlife.

Chautala also inaugurated a new wing of the local school and visited an exhibition put up on the occasion. He also gave away prizes to the winners of the state as well as the district eco-quiz and painting competitions. Among others who spoke on the occasion were R.S. Chaudhary, Deputy Chairman of Planning Board; Promila Issar, Commissioner, Wildlife; B.D. Dhalia, Commissioner, Forest; B.D. Monga, Chief Wildlife Warden and Pardeep Chaudhary, State General Secretary of INLD. A cultural programme was also presented by school children on the occasion.
