AHMEDABAD, Oct 4: City Sessions Judge R J Dave has issued notice to the State Government, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Rural) in a petition seeking ban on commercialisation of Navratri festival by private party plots and clubs in the city.Appearing for petitioners Chetan Shah and Manish Vaghela, advocate Vinod Gajjar sought directions to be issued to the Police Commissioner and Deputy Police Commissioner (Rural) to cancel the permissions granted to the private party plots and clubs to hold garba during the Navratri festival.
He also sought court's help to stop the authorities from granting further permissions for garba and a restriction on sale of tickets for garbas. He said the party plots and clubs had commercialised a religious function which was originally held in the open for nine nights.
Gajjar said the garbas, which continue till late in the night, lead to noise pollution and law and order problems. Moreover, there is vulgarity during the festival which should be stopped, he said.
The next hearing in the matter is on October 6.
