Mumps cases in Banaskantha dist

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Oct 4: About 10 cases of mumps and tonsilitis have been reported among primary school children of Tiski village in Malpur taluka of Banaskantha district. Though officials of the Primary Health Centre at Malpur visited the village, the treatment being given to the children is still unclear. The Health Department has sent another team from Himmatnagar to take stock of the situation. Sources in Himmatnagar district panchayat said attendance of primary school children had dropped since the cases started rising.

Dr Swaminarayan of Malpur PHC said the symptoms indicated the children had mumps. A vernacular newspaper had reported that the children had this swelling after eating mid-day meal made from contaminated edible oil on September 20. However, Malpur mamlatdar refuted this saying the scheme had closed down since August 31.
