AHMEDABAD, Oct 4: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has ordered status quo to be maintained in a petition filed by Ahmedabad Additional Commissioner of Police Vipul Vijoy and Surat Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Agarwal against their suspension ordered by the State Government in the Surat police firing in which seven persons were killed on Ganeshotsav. When the two officers went to file their petitions in the CAT, vice-chairman V Ramakrishnan and Judicial Member P C Kannan ordered them to first withdraw their original petition filed in the high court, which they did. Following this, the Letters Patent Appeal filed by the State Government also stood withdrawn. As a result, the two officers, who were on duty when the matter came up before CAT, continue to be so till October 7 when the matter is to come up for hearing.
It may be noted that the two officers had moved the high court following their suspension and were granted stay by the single judge. The State Government filed a Letters Patent Appeal before a division bench seeking that the stay on their suspension be vacated.
