GANDHINAGAR, Oct 4: In a significant development, the Government has decided to bring 44 more talukas under the special planned scheme for the all-round development of people belonging to the socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC). With this, the total number of SEBC-dominated talukas brought under the scheme has increased to 139.The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting here on Monday. The decision to bring 44 more talukas under the scheme follows a report submitted by the Cabinet sub-committee headed by Finance and Revenue Minister Vajubhai Vala to the Government recently.
Briefing newspersons after the Cabinet meeting, Minister for the Welfare of SEBCs Gabhaji Thakore said under the special planned scheme, each of these talukas would be allotted a special grant of Rs five lakh from the planned budget to create infrastructure facilities in the talukas. Besides, top priority will be accorded to individual beneficiary schemes there.
Thakore said the development grant would be utilised for creating infrastructure facilities in these talukas, such as laying of new roads and water pipelines, installing hand pumps and street lights and sewerage disposal.
