COLOMBO, OCT 4: Sri Lanka bagged their first-ever Test series victory over Australia today when rain washed out play on the fifth day of the third and final Test.Umpires decided to call off play without a ball being bowled at the Sinhalese Sports Club, handing the Lankans a 1-0 series win. Lanka had won the first Test.
A soggy outfield caused by heavy rain overnight and overcast conditions with more rain forecast for the day prompted the decision.
Former captain Arjuna Ranatunga was dropped from the Sharjah-bound squad while Aravinda de Silva was recalled into the One-day side for the forthcoming triangular tournament in the desert venue.
