Kumaran spells Karnataka's doom
Tamil Nadu paceman T Kumaran served notice of his potential with an outstanding display of fast medium bowling in the Irani Trophy tie on Monday. The stocky bowler who relished reverse-swinging the old ball, came back for a second spell after lunch and routed Karnataka for a meagre 91 to set up Rest of India's innings and 60-run win with more than four sessions to spare.

Three-day tie
The bright sunny weather that greeted the New Zealand cricketers on their arrival in Jodhpur has not only gladdened the hearts of the tourists but also the cricket-lovers and administrators of the Jodhpur Cricket Association, the organisers of the three-day match between the tourists and the Board President's XI to be held on Tuesday.

Lanka win
Sri Lanka were left singing in the rain here today when a heavy downpour handed them their first-ever Test series victory over Australia on the fifth day of the third and final Test. The cloudburst left sections of the outfield completely unplayable, and after light rain began to fall at the Sinhalese Sports Club, umpires were left with no option but to abandon the Test - giving Sri Lanka a 1-0 series victory.

Bangladesh win
It was the gold Nepal wanted most desperately. Thousands shouted hoarse inside the Dasratha Stadium, while others milled around TV sets and transistors outside, praying for their heroes. However, Bangladesh were as determined today. They had a jinx to break, bitter memories to be erased. And they fought hard for it to win the showcase event of the eight SAF Games -- the football final -- by a lone goal leaving behind several wet eyes in the stadium.

China dominate
Even as China completed another successful domination of the Asian Junior athletics championships. India added five more silver and one bronze to their tally.
