Territorial army completes fifty years

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA  
NEW DELHI, OCT 7: The Indian Territorial Army, the only unit of the defence forces that civilians can join on a part-time basis, is celebrating its golden jubilee this year.

The Army was inaugurated on October 9, 1949 by C Rajagopalachari, the first Indian Governor-General.

To mark the occasion, the Territorial Army will hold a parade at the Army Cantonment on its founding day, which will be reviewed by Defence Minister George Fernandes.
