Taliban help sought against terrorists

  • THE NATION: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's special emissary who met the supreme commander of the Taliban, Mullah Muhammad Umer, in Qandhar the other day is learnt to have given him a detailed briefing about the recent spate of terrorism in Pakistan while presenting him solid evidence of the involvement of about 200 most-wanted terrorists in it. The Taliban chief was further told that Afghanistan had turned into a breeding-ground for terrorists who, after getting training from various camps set up in south of Kabul, infiltrated into Pakistan and were found involved in the recent spate of sectarian violence that resulted in the killings of more than three dozen persons throughout Pakistan. The PM's emissary appealed to Mullah Umer to extend support to the Government of Pakistan for crushing the elements engaged in the nefarious campaign to carry out massacre of the Muslims in the nameof religion. Though no formal announcement has been made by the Governments in Kabul and Islamabad regarding the high-level talks held inQandhar, sources at both the Capital cities have confirmed that Mullah Umer's reaction to Pakistan's request was very positive and reflective of the cordial relations the two countries have been enjoying for long.
