Social work programme

The College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan-Extension Centre conducts six month weekend `Certificate in Para-Professional Social Work' training programme in Hindi for youth interested in working on social issues.

The next batch of the course begins from January 2, 2000. Those interested in doing the course can collect application forms from: College of Social Work-Extension Centre, St Pius College Campus, Aarey Road, Goregaon (E), Mumbai-63; phone no: 8742284.

The forms will be issued from November 1, 1999 and the last date for submitting the application form is Tuesday, November 28, 1999.

Food processing courses

Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore is conducting short- term courses in food processing and related areas during October-November 1999. These include: Developments in technology of bread manufacture: October 25-29; Technology of soft drinks: November 1-5; Spices and condiments - microbial, pesticides and toxic metals analysis: November15-19; hazard analysis critical control points in food industries: November 22-26; fundamentals and applied aspects of algal biotechnology: November 29 - December 3.

Ayurveda for senior citizens

An ayurvedic diagnostic camp for senior citizens has been organised at the National Association for Blind, Braille Press, Worli Sea Face on October 10 from 8 am to 12 noon. Free ECG and blood sugar estimation will be done to check for ischaemic heart diseases and diabetes. A team of committed Doctors from Podar Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Worli under the leadership of Prof K R Kohli will treat patients suffering from weakness, constipation, arthritis, reduction in memory, hypertension, diabetes, urinary problems, depression and loss of appetite. Shopping event at WTC

Silver Screen Services has organised Mela'99, amega shopping event focussing on consumer products at World Trade Centre from October 10 to 13 from 10 am to 8 pm. Everything from essence sticks to eatables will be up for sale and a free private bus service between Churchgate and World Trade Centre will be provided.

Adhar founder passes away

Madhavrao Gore, founder and chairman of Adhar, home for the mentally retarded in Thane, expired on October 4 at his residence after a heart attack. He is mourned by his wife, son, daughter-in-law, other family members, friends, management and the staff of Adhar.
