MUMBAI, OCT 12: Machines and cloth worth nearly Rs 8 were robbed lakh from a garment manufacturing unit at Worli on Monday, in what police suspect could have been an inside job.The garment manufacturing unit, Fabrico Company, located at Dhan Apartments, Hill Road, was shut at 1.30 pm on Saturday. The proprietor, Manan Narayan Kamal, found the door of the factory ajar when he returned on Monday morning. When he entered inside, he found property worth Rs 7.9 lakh missing from the factory.
Investigating officer, assistant inspector of police K L Jadhav said six sewing machines and a large amount of cloth, including a big stock of readymade garments, were missing.
The Worli police, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, said the robbers gained entry into the premises with the help of a duplicate set of keys. ``We suspect some insider could be involved in the robbery,'' said API Jadhav.
According to eyewitnesses and a building watchman, there were more than a dozen employees in the garmentmanufacturing unit on Saturday. Most of the men had free access to the workplace and were working on shift duty, making it all the more difficult to keep a tab on their movements.
The Fabrico Company has been locked after police conducted a `panchnama' on Monday evening.
Officers attached to Worli police said they are likely to nab the culprit after some routine investigation. All employees in the company are likely to questioned for more clues, the officer added.
Stamp racket busted
Police busted a racket involving the sale of fake revenue stamps in the city and other parts of the country.
The detection branch of the CID arrested Krishna Setar and Umesh Khandelwal who were remanded to police custody till october 16 by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of the esplanade court, Usha Iyer. Thirty-two thousand revenue stamps valued at Re 1 each were seized when police raided premises at Dharavi. Interrogations have revealed that lakhs of fake stamps have been sold in the city and otherparts of the country.
Fake doctors arrested
As many as 12 fake doctors were arrested by the anti-extortion cell of the Mumbai police.
Those arrested have been identified as Amir Hussain, Purnachandra Kalichandra Chanda, Anjur Usman Ganeer Rehman, Vishwajeet Biswas, Ranjan Sarkar, Sanjit Bala Lal, Kiran Kumar Biswas, Anand Biswas, Sunil Mandal, Govinda Das, Sushil Biswas, and Tapan Kumar.
All 12 have been remanded to police custody till October 26 by a metropolitan court. Medicines, syringes, surgical equipments and other medical paraphernalia were seized from them.
