20 year old attacked for befriending other guy

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Oct 12: A 20-year-old girl from Aundh was attacked allegedly by an over-possessive friend who was irked because she was behaving in a friendly manner with neighbours.

The alleged assailant, Vishal Bhagvan Gosavi (21) of Bodygate police lines, was arrested and slapped with assault charges after the girl lodged an FIR at Chatuhshrungi police station last evening. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

PI M B Apune said Vishal, son of a policeman, is unemployed. He had quit studies after having failed in standard X. The victim, also the daughter of a policeman, is doing a computer course.

Police said Vishal is a childhood friend of the victim, whose family has been residing in his neighbourhood for a long time. The relationship between them had been strained in recent times as Vishal did not approve of the girl being friendly with a youth.

The girl stated in her FIR that she was walking down the Indo-Bremen Maitri Chowk in Aundh when Vishal approached her around 11.30 am on Saturday.

The FIR said the girl accompanied Vishal to a hotel on the Pune-Sinhagad Road after he insisted on discussing some important matters. Vishal who appeared in a foul mood started consuming liquor immediately after reaching the hotel. Inspector Apune said the girl tried in vain to convince Vishal that there was nothing wrong if she behaved in a friendly manner with their neighbours. Enraged over the girl's refusal to stop mixing up with the neighbours, he said, Vishal broke a liquor bottle and wrote his name on her forearm with a piece of glass.
