VADODARA, Oct 13: The Central Gujarat Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday, alleged that in spite of a circular issued by the Central Board of Excise and Custom, the central excise department was taking coercive actions for recovery of arrears in cases where stay applications were pending.Chamber president Bhupendra Patel, in a press release seeking the intervention of the board on the issue, said that the departmental action violated the Board circular no 396/29/98-CX dated August 2 -- based on judgement delivered in the Bombay High court -- which directed that no coercive action should be taken to realise arrears.
According to Patel, despite the instructions, which were binding on the Vadodara excise commissionarate, goods were seized in cases where stay applications was pending. Patel urged the chairman of the Board to intervene and instruct the Vadodara commissionarate to stop taking coercive actions.
