PU teachers plan dharna to protest disproportionate representation

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
CHANDIGARH, Oct 13: The Punjab University Teachers' Association plans a dharna near the PU Senate meeting venue on October 18. The dharna is planned to protest against the disproportionate representation of teachers in the Senate.

The PUTA alleges that since the Senate takes up matter relating to the university teachers, their lower representation "would adversely affect the academic growth of the university". The teachers have also demanded the immediate release of arrears and "immediate implementation of a viable pension scheme".

Central Excise open house today
The Central Excise Department will hold an open house-cum-seminar on service tax to "enlighten the assessees on the provisions of the service tax and to redress the grievances of the trade".

To be held at Punjab Bhawan, the seminar will be attend by DG, Service Tax Govindan S. Tampi, Central Excise Commissioners S.S. Jha and I.R. Soni and other officers of the department to answer queries of the trade.
