NEW DELHI, OCT 13: Vaid Vishnu Dutt and Chaman Lal Gupta, senior BJP leaders and MPs from Jammu and Kashmir, have warned the party central leaders of ``a serious setback to the party's image in the state'' if the National Conference became a part of the National Democratic Alliance at the Centre.Warning of a ``Karnataka-type situation in J&K'', Gupta, who was re-elected from the Udhampur-Doda constituency said: ``This time, the partymen would not tolerate this liasion.'' Dutt, re-elected from Jammu-Poonch, added: ``This decision of the central leaders would damage our political strategy in the Jammu region.''
Dutt added that the BJP and NC had opposed each other on all major political issues. ``We have opposed autonomy while they (NC) want it. We have been talking of regional discrimination and abrogation of Article 370,'' he noted, lamenting that if the NC became a part of the NDA, the BJP leaders from the state would be restrained in pursuing their politics.
Vaid warned that the partymen from thestate would oppose the central leadership's decision tooth and nail. ``We have lodged protests at several fora within the party and they can not ignore everything weve been saying,'' he told The Indian Express.
While reacting to remarks of party general secretary Venkaiah Naidu about ``the indispensability of Abdullah in the NDA'', Gupta said: ``Our objection is on the immorality behind Abdullah's decision to join the NDA after the announcement of results.''
Accusing the party leaders of falling to the charms of Farooq Abdullah, Gupta said the latter had indulged in clever political games by aligning himself with the NDA. ``As it happened in the past, Abdullah would pin all the blame for the state's problems on the BJP Government at the Centre and thus disarm us in our campaign against his government shortcomings.''
In fact, the Bharatiya Janata Party and National Congress have shared an equation which defies all political logic. Both the parties have never entered into any formal politicalalliance or pact except for the NC coming to the rescue of the BJP twice during the trial of strength in the last Parliament. Politically, both the parties have parallel ideologies and have recently been through a bitter election campaign where their candidates spewed venom on each other publicly.
