New computer virus on the prowl

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, oct 15: Beware! A new computer virus is lurking around waiting to corrupt your files.

Word 97 Macro Virus W97.WebMaster.a - the new virus spreads through infected Word 97 and Word 2000 Documents. It is written in Visual Basic for Applications and works on Microsoft Word 2000.

Pioneer Micro Systems Pvt Ltd, believes that the virus released on May 16, 1999 was probably written in Pune. On any 13th of a month that is divisible by 2, the virus changes the font of any document you open to Webdings. The document is destroyed. On any 15th of a month, the virus deletes any document that you open and that cannot be recovered. The company's package Vaxine detects and cures this virus. The company has developed a utility to recover the data in DOC files corrupted by the virus. This program can be downloaded at http://www.pioneermicro.com.
