Naik called shots through satellite phone

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, OCT 15: Interrogation of Ashwin Naik has revealed that the gangster had used sophisticated telecommunication equipment like satellite phones to communicate with his henchmen and yet appeared to be abroad though he was actually in India while on the run, according to top city police officials.

Naik, who has been remanded to Pune police custody till October 18 in the abduction and murder case of Wakadewadi estate agent Deepak Deo, is being interrogated by a team led by inspector Vishwas Chaugule.

Deputy commissioner (crime) Surindar Kumar and assistant commissioner P N Ingale today claimed that the gangster has confessed during interrogation that he had directed his gang to kill Deo, suspecting that he was helping his rival Arun Gawli gang.

The police said Naik would be questioned about his associates and their activities in Pune before he is handed over to the Mumbai police on October 18.
